What I like about The Imagine Bus Project is that it keeps you busy… instead of running around driving your parents crazy you get to draw and paint and color. You can even do homework if you have to. I like it when other people look at my art. It's fun.

MISSION AND HISTORY
The Imagine Bus Project (TIBP) reaches children and youth in underserved communities to provide sustained, positive and creative outlets for personal expression through the visual arts, which empowers our students to explore their potential, develop critical thinking, and build self-esteem.

The Imagine Bus Project’s visionary and passionate founder, Susan Little, began in 1998 with a mission to bring art to inner city kids in San Francisco to help break the isolation they faced. Upon learning that there were hundreds of kids in San Francisco that had never seen the Golden Gate Bridge, Ms. Little wondered what would happen if she could find a way to physically “bring experiences directly to youth.” With this in mind, she bought an old airporter bus, refurbished it, filled it with arts supplies, and drove it to neighborhoods where kids could be “transported” using art as their “vehicle.”

TIBPis committed to serving underserved children and youth, who would not otherwise have access to an arts education, and is guided by the objective of providing sustained arts programming that empowers youth with tools of positive self-expression, increases engagement in learning, and instills a sense of accomplishment.

PROGRAMS
TIBP is a vital part of Bay Area communities as it fulfills the widespread void of arts education budget cuts in San Francisco, Marin and Sonoma counties’ public schools and after school programs.  TIBP brings Teaching Artists and professional art supplies to give the next generation access to the world of art making and a voice to express their hopes and dreams.

TIBP’s four program areas reach over 2,000 K-12 students annually in San Francisco, Sonoma, and Marin Counties through partnerships with under-resourced and economically disadvantaged school districts, juvenile detention centers, after school programs and community-based organizations.
